Created series, art, writing, Flash development, font development

In 2002, ModernTales.com launched, and webcomics publishing kicked into high gear. I came along for the ride with Outside The Box. One of only two Flash-based webcomics on the site, OTB helped to pioneer this new chapter in comics history. Now, you can read the entire OTB run right here.

Sable & Fortune

Marvel Comics

Writing

I was given the task of putting together the prickly Silver Sable and a revamped version of Howard Chaykin's Dominic Fortune. Think of it as an exercise in D-lister synergy. I came up with a spy/detective book, intended to live on the fringes of the Marvel Universe. While we were only able to do four issues, the critics and pundits seemed to like it, so, you know, good for us. John Burns (whose Sable appears in the thumbnail at the top of this column) and Laurenn McCubbin contributed beautiful artwork that made me look good. And of course, the less said about my editor and good friend John Barber, the better.

Legion of Monsters: Morbius

Marvel Comics

Writing

This was a fun one—I got to do a vampire story. Well, he's sort of a vampire. Anyway, point being: darkness, pathos, and blood. Like I said, fun. The übertalented Michael Gaydos painted this one and it ran alongside a really fun Dracula and Lilith story by C.B. Cebulski and David Finch. (Coolness: They're also doing a hardcover of this series.)
